Finan instruction to a stockbroker to buy or sell a security within certain limits, usually not to sell below or to buy above a set price. A time limit is stipulated by the investor and if there has been no transaction within that period, the instruction lapses. It is equally applicable to the commodity or currency markets. -

Finthe process of assessing a financial transaction, confirming that it does not raise the account’s debt above its limit, and allowing the transaction to proceed. This would be undertaken, for example, by a credit card issuer. A positive authorization results in an authorization code being generated and the relevant funds being set aside.
